Clifford was killed by an aerial torpedo while commanding 184a Light Trench Mortar Battery.  He had been promoted to his Captaincy the day before. Today Clifford lies in the Royal Irish Rifles Military Graveyard at Laventie, France alongside several others from his Battalion.  He is also rememberd as part of a family memorial in the cemetery in Brimscombe, Gloucestershire.

Since publication of The Three Uncles, Marlborough College have uploaded photos and details of all 749 former students who lost their lives in the great war.  I'm thinking of them all today.

Rest in Peace Clifford
